EER’s thermal treatment technology (PGM Technology) originated in a process for the treatment of Low and Intermediate Level Radioactive Waste (LILRW), designed and developed some twenty years ago at the presrigeous RRC - Kurchatov Institute and implemented for a number of years in SIA - Radon in Russia.

PGM (Plasma-Gasification-Melting) Technology applied to Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and to Medical Waste (MW) is a modification of the original core technology which takes into account the specific characteristics and requirements of these waste types.

The implementation of the technology to LILRW has been further developed and a recently commissioned larger facility, the PLUTON plant was built. This facility was also used in evaluation of the technology for treatment of MSW, MW and other waste types.

The development and adaptation of the PGM Technology for treatment of MSW, MW and other wastes involves active participation of Russian scientists who are among the developers of the core technology, and who together with the Israeli team of scientists and engineers designed and built a Demonstration Facility in the northern part of Israel in Yblin, where the applicability of PGM to the treatment of MSW is demonstrated.
